The New American Catholic Bible - Chapter 7 - The Book of Wisdom

For those of you that are not familiar with the Catholic Bible there are a number of books included in it that are not included in the standard Christian Bibles. The books included in the Catholic Bible are; The Book of Tobit, The Book of Judith, The First Book of Macabees The Second Book of Macabees, The Book of Wisdom, The Book of Sirach and The Book of Baruch.

For now I want to focus on a few verses from the Book of Wisdom Chapter 7 ' The Title for this section of verses is Nature and Incomparable Dignity of Wisdom. Frankly, these are some of the most beautiful, powerful and awe-inspiring lines of scripture that I have ever read. I hope you will feel the same way. If you have a New American Catholic Bible I would re-read Chapter 7 after you read this. If you don't have one you can probably find it on one of the online Bible sites.

Book of Wisdom Chapter 7

For in her is a spirit intelligent, holy, unique,
Manifold, subtle, agile,
Not baneful, loving the good, keen, unhampered, beneficent, kindly.
Firm, secure, tranquil,
All-powerful, all-seeing, and pervading all spirits, though they be intelligent, pure and very subtle.
For Wisdom is mobile beyond all motion, and she penetrates and pervades all things by reason of her purity.
For she is an aura of the might of God and a pure effusion of the glory of the Almighty; therefore nought that is sullied enters into her.
For she is the refulgence of eternal light, the spotless mirror of the power of God, the image of his goodness.
And she who is one, can do all things, and renews everything while herself perduring; and passing into holy souls from age to age she produces friends of God and prophets.
For there is nought God loves, be it not one who dwells with Wisdom.
For she is fairer than the sun and surpasses every constellation of the stars. Compared to light she takes precedence; for that, indeed, night supplants, but wickedness prevails not over Wisdom.

There are many such verses in the Book of Wisdom. It is packed with revelation, and Wisdom. I wondered why the Catholic Bible contained books that were not included in other Bibles. All I can say is that I am glad that they did because I found the Book of Wisdom there.

Another reason is this; once upon a time I did a scroll beginning with one reference number from a line of scripture in Genesis regarding Isaac. Most of these little scrolls I would do would go to a few other scripture verses and end. One from the Book of Job was long (over 100 verses) and one from 1 Corinthians 13 was over 250 verses. The one from Genesis took four and a half months to complete ' it went to over 27,000 references and 400,000 verses. Going back to Genesis 1, 1 and encompassing Revelation 22 and every other book of the Bible in the process. There was ' is an all-star cast and many of the connections from the Old Testament to New Testament in the scroll came from the books that were included in the Catholic Bible.

I really hope that you enjoyed these verses from the Book of Wisdom. There is much revelation in this book ' Chapter 8 is awesome as well ' More about her, Wisdom!
