Elisha's Chariots of Fire - Bible History or Bible Prophecy

This Bible story from the Old Testament is one of my favorites. Elisha and his servant were surrounded by a massive number of horses and chariots and by all natural means they were about to perish. Elisha' servant (or minister) asked Elisha "Alas, my master; how shall we do?" - Basically, Elisha's servant thought that there was no hope because of the massive army they were facing. Elisha answered his servant by saying " Fear not, they that be with us are more than they that be with them". Imagine standing there alone with Elisha knowing that you are up against insurmountable odds and about to die and having Elisha answer you with an answer like this! Perhaps there is a great lesson here for all of us - I hope that you will read on because this is what Elisha (the man of God) did next.

2 Kings 6,17

And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

Sometimes what we see with our natural eyes is the impossible - Elisha knew that God was with him and he saw the spiritual help God had sent. You can read this story for yourself. The opposing King's entire army was struck with blindness and taken captive. Per Elisha's instruction they were not killed.

There are so many spiritual principles in this story it's truly amazing. Is there a God? Yes. If there is a God that created everything can he deal with any situation that comes into our lives? Yes. We live in a dangerous world today. The opposing forces to good and to freedom seem to be overwhelming. This is what we can see with our natural eyes - what Elisha saw was just a sampling of the power and might of God. What were the chariots of fire surrounding Elisha? Did they look like the king's chariots? Personally, I doubt it.

The Bible may be an ancient book - God may be called the Ancient of Days - but God's technology is so far advanced to anything that exists on this earth today there is no comparison possible. As a footnote - Elisha was mentored by the prophet Elijah who coincidentally was taken from the Earth in a fiery chariot...

Elijah's name is made up of two words - word 410 'El' (God) and 3050 'Lord' or 'Jah'. Elisha was called the man of God many times in scriptures. Elisha's name (word 477) means 'God is Salvation'.

If at times there seems to be little hope and the odds seem to be insurmountable always remember Elisha and God's Chariots of Fire. There are even more today than there were then!
